Sublime Summer Facials
With weeks of summer behind us and even more sunny days ahead, there’s no better time than now to treat yourself to a midsummer day’s facial! Keeping up a normal skincare routine in the summer can be difficult; humidity changes, sun exposure, and even increased sweating can confuse your skin and leave it feeling less than stellar. Though it is important to stick to your daily cleansing and moisturizing routines, sometimes your skin might just need some extra love to get it glowing again. So sit back, relax, and we’ll give you some of our favorite DIY facial tips for you to try on your own!
Facials From The Earth
Here at Gifts From the Earth, we love creating luxurious, relaxing selfcare products for our customers just as much as we love using them ourselves! Since there are so many different skin types, we try to carry a large variety of products so that everyone can benefit from the gifts nature has to offer.
Sensitive or Problematic Skin
Our Skin Repair Mask is the perfect facial treatment for problematic and sensitive skin. The power of pumpkin and gotu kola (an herb also classified as Pennywort) are combined with cranberry, rice bran, vitamin B5, and a variety of essential oils to create this healing mask. The ingredients’ synergy strengthens tissue, regenerates, rejuvenates, repairs, and pulls impurities from the skin. To use, mix a small amount of the dry facial mask in a bowl with water to make a paste and let it soften for 30 seconds-1 minute. Gently apply to clean, dry skin, avoiding eye area, and leave on for 10+ minutes. If preferred, a wet washcloth may be placed on the face (of course avoiding the mouth/nose) to prevent the mask from hardening. To remove, rinse with warm water. Follow the mask with our Soothing Citrus Toner and our Everyday Face Lotion, or whatever combination of toner/moisturizer works best for you.
Normal, Oily, or Aging Skin
Our Green Goddess of The Earth Facial Mask has different benefits for each skin type. A combination of French green clay, kaolin clay, oats, and a variety of plants, herbs, and essential oils, this formula firms skin, removes impurities, gently exfoliates, and absorbs oil – all things that help clear up oily skin and keep pores clean. It also encourages wound healing, soothes eczema, is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-septic. The mask is astringent, which means it is great for aging skin, and is rich in trace elements that replenish skin cells and leave skin feeling smooth and refined. To use, mix a small amount of the facial mask in a bowl with water until it forms a soft paste. Apply to clean, dry skin (avoiding eye area) and leave on for 10-20 minutes. Again, a wet cloth may be placed on the face to keep the mask moist if desired! Rinse with warm water, and follow with our Floral Water Hydrator and Forever Young Luscious Lotion, or your favorite moisturizer.
DIY Facial Masks
Summer fruits and veggies are wonderful sources of antioxidants when consumed. But did you know they can be used topically as well? Try mixing it up with these fun, natural face masks!
An Apple A Day
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, and an apple on the face helps maintain beautiful skin!
You will need:
-2 apples
-2 tablespoons of coconut water
-Cooled chamomile tea
Peel, slice, and mash the apples. Add the coconut water and enough tea to make an easily applicable paste. Apply to clean, dry skin, leave on for about 10 minutes, and rinse off with warm water, followed by cold water to close up your pores. And don’t forget to moisturize! Coconut oil is a wonderful moisturizer – a little bit goes a long way.
Kiwi/Strawberry and Honey Facial
Have some extra overripe fruit laying around? Then this is the perfect mask for you!
You’ll need:
-4 to 6 overripe strawberries
-1 overripe kiwi
-2 tablespoons of organic honey
-2 tablespoons of sugar
Remove the strawberry stems and cut them in half. Peel the kiwi and cut it into fourths. Mash up the fruit with a potato masher, and add in the sugar and honey. When you have a creamy, mushy mixture, you’re ready for action! Rub the mask onto clean skin in circular motions until the face is completely covered – you will feel as though you’re “scrubbing” your face; this is a gentle exfoliating scrub! You may want to use this one in the shower as it can be messy. Once you have covered the whole face and neck, rinse off with warm water. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.
Whether you use our naturally formulated face products or create one of your own, we hope you can take some time for yourself to give your skin a little extra love!
