Back to School Skincare
The end of summer means back to school, a new routine, and probably a little stress as you adjust to your new schedule. It’s easy to let your self-care habits fall by the wayside as you get all wrapped up in activities, socializing, and fall fun, which may leave your skin less radiant than normal. Luckily, creating a personalized skincare routine and sticking to it is much easier than it sounds! Sunny days may be on their way out, but your skin will keep glowing all year long.
Watch Your Diet
We understand how easy it is to fall into not-so-great eating habits when you are busy, but when you regularly consume unhealthy food it shows on your skin! The best thing you can do to keep yourself healthy inside and out is to eat a diet that is low in sugar and processed foods and high in foods contains vital vitamins and nutrients.
Spinach and kale contain vitamin A which helps skin from becoming dry.
Strawberries are delicious and an incredible superfood – they contain antioxidants and help protect skin from free radical damage.
Yogurt and kombucha contain probiotics that help to balance the good and bad bacteria in your belly. Getting out of whack on the inside can translate to acne, psoriasis, and excema on the skin, so if you experience any of those issues give probiotics a shot!
Nuts, seeds, and avocados contain vitamin E which is extremely important for those of us with dry skin. Vitamin E helps skin retain moisture and also protects it from harmful UV rays!
Get Into The Groove
When getting into your new skincare routine it is important to make sure you are giving your skin everything it needs to stay clean and healthy. Every morning, start the day by washing your face with a gentle cleanser. We know it seems silly to wash your face when all you did was sleep, but it really makes a difference! Apply your toner and moisturizer before your sunscreen (and makeup if you choose) and you are ready to face the day! Before bed, follow the same steps. One of the biggest skincare mistakes people make is forgetting to take off their makeup at the end of the day – especially those in college! We know sometimes you just need to go straight to bed, but taking that extra 5 minutes to wash your face before closing your eyes will really show. In addition to makeup, your skin collects dirt all day long, so leaving all of that stuff on your face overnight can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. After cleansing, don’t forget to moisturize!! Some prefer a heavier moisturizer for night time, but you can decide what works best for your skin. So, all you have to remember is: wash, tone, moisturize x2 and you are good to go!
Be Choosy
Your skin is yours, not your mom’s, your sister’s, your best friend’s, or your husband’s. So, that means you have the privilege of finding the skincare products that work best for you! There are so many options out there, and it may take some experimenting, but it is important to stick to whatever you choose. If you aren’t seeing good results after a month or so, try giving something else a try. All of our products here at Gifts From the Earth were created with a specific skin type in mind, and you can find that listed in the product information on our website. If you need help selecting the right products for your needs, we are happy to help!
Scrub Scrub Scrub
Cleansing your face morning and night is sure to leave you with beautiful skin, but it is also important to exfoliate! We don’t want to do this every day as it may hurt your skin, but exfoliating two-three times a week will help clear away dead skin cells that tend to clog pores. If your skin is usually on the dry side, it can probably handle a slightly more coarse exfoliating scrub. If your skin is sensitive or problematic, we definitely recommend a more gentle scrub. Again, you may have to test some out to find the scrub that works best for you, but hey – who doesn’t love playing around with yummy skincare products?!
We hope you have a fabulous school year with beautiful skin, refreshed energy, and endless happiness!
