5 Cool Weather Skincare Tips
Summertime skincare probably feels like second nature as we slowly transition into cooler months. Glowing, moisturized skin is nothing to take for granted, but it’s not something we have to say goodbye to! In fact, your skin can look and feel just as healthy year round with just a few tweaks to your daily routine. Dry, chapped, itchy skin? No thank you!
Sunscreen
I know what you’re thinking – “Summer is over! This girl doesn’t even know what season it is…” But before you tune out, I know summer is over and yes, that says sunscreen! Just because the temperatures are colder and you’re all bundled up doesn’t mean the sun goes away for the winter. It is still entirely possible for your face, neck, chest, and even the backs of your hands to get sunburned while you’re picking apples or even singing Christmas carols; in fact, some of the worst sunburns can happen in the fall and winter. So, make sure you continue applying sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) all year long to keep your skin protected from those UV rays.
Combinations
Does your skin feel weighed down when you apply moisturizer and sunscreen? That doesn’t mean you should skip either one! Instead, combine your sunscreen with your morning moisturizer before applying them – this way you won’t feel suffocated and your skin will still be moisturized and protected!
Post Shower
Because of wind, frigid temperatures, and dry air, the most common skin problem during winter months is dryness. Of course you already know to moisturize your skin daily, but one way to help protect it from feeling chapped is to apply moisturizer right after you get out of the shower. Towel off, and rub on your lotion while your skin is still slightly damp. Pores remain open right after you bathe, so applying your lotion to towel dried skin will allow the moisturizer to penetrate the skin and will help lock in moisture. Your skin will feel soft all day long!
A Little TLC
Hands, feet, and elbows tend to become particularly dry during the winter and often times require a heavier moisturizer than the one you use on the rest of your body. Our Rough Skin Cream is wonderful for hands and elbows – it is very effective on chapped, cracked skin and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy. Our Warming Foot Lotion is soothing for dry feet and it helps warm up cold toes! Apply your extra moisturizers after showering, before bed, and as needed throughout the day. Before going to bed, you can also try applying a little extra moisturizer to your feet and immediately putting socks on. This will keep the lotion focused on your skin instead of rubbing off on your sheets!
Lip Love
From hot sun to dry air to heavy winds, lips have the potential to chap year round. Chapped, cracked lips aren’t just a cosmetic problem, either – they hurt! Make sure you always carry a lip balm with you, especially when it’s cold outside, to help protect your lips and to keep them soft. You may also want to apply a light sunscreen to help avoid sun damage. If your lips do become dry, try exfoliating them with a your gentle facial scrub when you exfoliate your face in the shower! It will help remove dead skin and lock in some moisture.
The cold months don't have to take a toll on your skin this year – we can all enjoy healthy, soft, supple skin all year long!!
