Holiday Skincare Tips

With Christmas and New Years steadily approaching, you may notice your skin feeling…not so great. Between all the late nights with loved ones, drinking, eating, and just being generally indulgent, it is easy to neglect our normal self-care routines. We’re here to help with some tips that will help you feel your best while celebrating the holidays with loved ones!

Problem #1: Swollen Eyes

So, you and your family stayed up into the wee hours of the night eating and drinking, only to wake up with swollen, puffy eyes. Been there! One important thing to remember is toalwaysremove your makeup. Sleeping with makeup on increases the risk of it getting into your eyes, and it’s just not good for your skin! That being said, if you’re up well into the night having fun, there is a good chance your makeup removal process will be slightly…haphazard to say the least. So, if you did what you could and still wake up with swollen eyes, lie down and place cold cotton balls, a chilled eye mask, or an ice pack wrapped in a towel on your eyes for around 10 minutes. This will help drain the fluid that has accumulated and reduce swelling! To prepare in advance for inevitable puffiness, wet some cotton balls and smoosh them so they flatten, then place them in the freezer on wax paper. When you wake up, grab a couple from the freezer so you can get rid of that puffiness before you get ready for the day!

Problem #2: Puffy Face

Sure, everyone jokes about gaining weight around the holidays, but the amount of food and alcohol we consume during the day can actually make us feel and look a little puffy in the face! A lot of holiday foods are super salty, and too much salt can cause your body to retain water. So between the high sodium hors d’oeuvres, multiple cocktails, fun holiday Starbucks drinks, and not enough water, you may be left with a face that feels swollen. The trick to combatting this is to force yourself to drink at least one glass of water per alcoholic beverage – this will keep your body hydrated so it won’t retain all that fluid! If you still feel your face is puffier than normal, try sleeping propped up on one more pillow than normal – this will prevent the fluid from “pooling” in your face while you sleep.

Problem #3: Sore Hands

It’s the biggest shopping season of the year, and the weather is cold. Of course your hands are sore from carrying all those bags around in frigid temperatures! One obvious thing to do is to remember to apply hand lotion regularly. Our Rough Skin Cream is a favorite for this time of year, it helps your hands stay soft and pretty and prevents cracking. If your hands are more on the achy side, try our Pain and Inflammation Cream. Made with a combination of healing ingredients, essential oils, and CBD oil, it helps soothe arthritis and general internal soreness.

Problem #4: Breakouts

Ah, yes. No sleep, lots of not-so-healthy food, and so much to do in so little time. It only makes sense that your skin would react to these stressors! To reiterate, it is important not to neglect your skin! Remove makeup, cleanse your skin, and apply moisturizer every day to help avoid clogged pores. Drinking enough water will help keep your skin happy as well. If you are still suffering, try to go without foundation/concealer as often as you can. Though you may feel like you want to cover up those blemishes, makeup tends to suffocate the skin which can slow down the healing process of breakouts. If you just have a few pimples, try applying our Blemish Tincture before bed (after you wash your face!), it will work overnight to expedite healing.

We hope these tips will help you feel merry and bright amid the festivities this week, and we wish you a very happy holiday season!
